From Our Affiliate Insights: My Quick Checklist Before Joining Any New ASP

Every few months, another ASP crosses my radar — a mention in a publisher forum, a name I spot in a competitor’s link structure, a tool recommendation from another affiliate marketer. Every few months, another ASP crosses my radar — a mention in a publisher forum, a name I spot in a competitor’s link structure, a tool recommendation from another affiliate marketer. Most of the time I sign up, poke around for twenty minutes, and forget about it. Every so often, though, one of those quick sign-ups turns into a genuinely useful addition to my income streams. Here’s the checklist I actually run through before deciding whether a new ASP is worth my time.

1. Is Registration Actually Free?

This sounds obvious, but it’s the first filter. Legitimate ASPs make their money from advertisers, not from publisher sign-up fees. If a platform is asking you to pay to join as a publisher, that’s a red flag worth walking away from immediately.

2. Does the Advertiser List Actually Match My Niche?

I don’t judge an ASP by its total advertiser count — I judge it by how many of those advertisers are actually relevant to what I write about. A platform with 500 advertisers in my niche is more useful to me than one with 5,000 advertisers in categories I’ll never touch. This is where smaller, more focused platforms sometimes outperform the giants: a network like affitoma doesn’t need to have the largest catalog in Japan — it just needs to have the right advertisers for whoever’s checking it out.

3. How Fast Is Publisher Approval?

Some networks approve nearly instantly; others take days or weeks of manual review. Neither is inherently better, but it changes how you should plan around them. If I’m launching a new site and want revenue streams live quickly, I prioritize checking the faster-approval platforms first, then layer in the slower, more selective ones as the site matures.

4. What Are the Real Payout Terms?

Minimum payout threshold, payment schedule, and accepted payment methods matter more than they get credit for. A platform with a low minimum payout and a straightforward bank transfer option is far more useful to a smaller publisher than one with a high threshold and a payout method that isn’t practical for your country.

5. Is the Dashboard Actually Usable?

I’ve abandoned otherwise decent ASPs purely because their reporting dashboard made it hard to tell which links were actually converting. A clean, readable dashboard saves real time over months of ongoing use, even if it’s a smaller detail to evaluate upfront.

Why I Still Bother Checking Smaller Platforms

It would be easier to just stick with the two or three major ASPs I already know well. But the smaller, lesser-known platforms are exactly where I’ve found advertiser relationships that weren’t already saturated by every other publisher in my niche. affitoma is a good example of the kind of platform worth running through this exact checklist — not because it’s guaranteed to become a major income source, but because the only way to find out is to actually register and look.

My Honest Takeaway

None of these five checks take more than a few minutes each, and running through them consistently has saved me from wasting time on platforms that were never going to be worth building content around. It’s also how I’ve found the smaller wins that add up — quietly diversifying income without depending entirely on the same handful of networks everyone else is already using. If you haven’t run a new ASP through a checklist like this recently, affitoma is as good a place as any to try it out.
